Apple TV Update, Major Upgrade

Apple has released an upgrade for their second generation Apple TV, which enables browsing and playback for videos stored in Vimeo. The Apple TV update also allows streaming and purchasing of different TV shows via the iCloud.

I have also noticed that the Apple TV update automatically checks the internet for available updates and when one appears, users are given the option to download and install the file. If you do not have Wi-Fi in your home, you can still check for updates by connecting your device to the PC and choosing the option ‘Restore’. However, this method should be used for recovering data thus, will reset the Apple TV device to its default settings. Once done, the 320MB sized update will take at least ten minutes for downloading and installation.

Apple TV Update: Downloading contents from the iTunes StoreApple TV Update

Because of the Apple TV Update and iCloud enabled service, users can now easily locate, choose and re-download all previous purchases made in iTunes Store. Back then, this feature was limited to downloading music, eBook and apps. However, the new Apple TV Update allows re-download and streaming of previously purchased TV shows to your device. Unfortunately, this feature is exclusive for US users only.

The new Apple TV update also includes new tweaks to Apple TV’s UI, making it easier for people without much technical knowledge to use and navigate. The menu also includes a list of TV shows you can choose from, and another separate list for the episodes you have recently purchased. Another thing that I liked about the update is that I could add TV episodes to a list of my favorites for easier and quicker access. The menu also shows other TV shows available for purchase, which can be organized and filtered by season.

By selecting an episode, you will see a short summary of the details while selecting the ‘Play’ button allows you to stream your chosen episode from the iTunes iCloud service, instead of waiting for it to download first.

Apple TV Update: Vimeo support capable

Another significant feature that I have noticed with the new Apple TV update is its enabled Vimeo support, which allowed me to browse contents from Vimeo channels. By signing in to my account, I was able to access all the videos I have previously ‘Liked’, see all the contents I have uploaded, as well as access my account’s ‘Watch Later’ queue. From the Apple TV menu, a separate grid is allotted for Vimeo videos, where you can choose from the thumbnails to see the details of the video as well as choose from options such as ‘Play’, ‘Like’ or add it to the ‘Watch Later’ queue. The recent Apple TV update has also enabled Parental Controls which gives users the options to hide or disable Vimeo videos from the menu.

Apple TV has a lot to offer to its consumers and the recent Apple TV update has just made it easier for Apple fans to have another device added on their collection.
